Introduction to Financial Literacy for Indigenous Peoples (Self-Directed Course)

RBC has put together a self-directed online course that can help you make financial decisions that reflect your values and keep you safe: whether you just started a job, or have just received a large sum of money.

The course has five parts. Each part contains a short video, some reading, and an activity, and takes about 15 minutes.

  • Part one is called About Money and Banking. It explains how to open a bank account, depositing a large sum of money, and your banking options
  • Part two is called Protecting Your Money. It tells you about banks and other financial institutions, how to protect yourself from scams and fraud, and why you should avoid payday loans
  • Part three is called Budgeting and Managing Your Money. It outlines how to create a budget, setting financial goals, and money management for seasonal workers
  • Part four is called Financing Your Goals with Debt and Credit. It helps you understand credit, learn how to apply for credit, and distinguish between good debt and bad debt

You can see the entire course and access the various parts here.

When you complete the course you can receive a ‘statement of completion’ certificate.
